Peggy (Marjorie) Jefferson

Obituary of Peggy (Marjorie) Jefferson

On January 29, 2026, at the age of 89, Peggy (Marjorie) Jefferson passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by love.

Peggy had always wanted to be a grandma and was overjoyed when her grandson Logan came into her life. Although Peggy was 80 years old at the time, she was active and deeply involved in Logan’s life - playing with him, reading to him, and sharing countless special moments. Logan adored his grandma and remembers her great sense of humour, along with her impressive ability to seamlessly dribble and zigzag a basketball from between one leg to the other.

Peggy was the proud mom of her two sons, Charles and James, who meant everything to her. She was a constant source of love, encouragement, and support throughout their lives, and they feel incredibly grateful to have had such a devoted and caring mother. Peggy was the devoted wife of Paul Jefferson for over 52 years, until his passing in October 2023. She missed Paul deeply and spoke of him often.

Peggy also shared a warm and special relationship with her daughter-in-law Lisa, who is forever grateful for Peggy’s love, generosity, and the care she provided while helping to raise Logan during his early years. Peggy’s family also includes Liam, who has been a meaningful and cherished part of the family for many years and continues to hold a special place in their hearts.

Peggy was born in Ottawa on December 14, 1936, as Marjorie Florence Cotter, to parents James and Rose Cotter. She was the third of five children - Rose, Jimmy (Doreen), Patsy and youngest brother John (Betty Ann), who always made Peggy laugh. Peggy often shared stories and fond memories of the Cotter family, including her nieces, nephews, and extended family.

While Peggy spent some time working in the federal government (where she met Paul) and at Charles and James’ high school, she devoted most of her life to raising her sons, creating a loving home, and building lasting family memories. Peggy had a passion for genealogy, and many family members learned so much about the Jefferson and Cotter family histories through her dedication and research. She also loved all things British, especially Queen Elizabeth II, and her home was filled with English teacups and cherished knick-knacks collected over the years.

Peggy will be deeply missed at the many special occasions she loved to host, from Easter and Thanksgiving dinners to birthday celebrations and Christmas gatherings, often featuring some of her most beloved recipes. Family favourites included her blueberry muffins, rocky roads, lemon squares, egg strata, and three-bean salad. Peggy was also an accomplished quilter and leaves behind a beautiful collection that will be treasured for generations.

Special occasions will never be the same without Peggy - a mom and grandma who filled our lives with warmth, generosity, and a lifetime of love.

While our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Paul.

With love,

Charles, James, Lisa, and Logan
