Obituary of Karen Anne Fitzgibbons
Karen Fitzgibbons lived her life in motion—guided by curiosity, powered by laughter, and grounded in a generosity that lifted everyone around her. Born in Ottawa on April 26, 1970, Karen embraced the world with both arms wide open, and she made sure there was always room for an adventure buddy.
A passionate book lover, Karen could lose herself in a story as easily as she could find joy in sharing one. But for all her love of reading, she was rarely still. The outdoors was her playground, and she answered every opportunity for adventure with her trademark sparkle and sharp wit. Kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing, camping, dragon boat racing—Karen never hesitated. Her only rule: never wear the wrong shoes. She’d remind you with a laugh, knowing full well she’d help you anyway.
Known for her humor, intelligence, and generosity, Karen had a gift for making people feel included, capable, and ready to tackle the world. Her leadership reflected the same spirit. Through a career in the retail industry, she transformed businesses with clarity and compassion, all while mentoring countless young leaders who found inspiration in her honesty, resilience, and boldness.
Karen is survived by her mother, Carol, and stepfather, Louis; her father, Jim, and stepmother, Joanne; her sisters, Christa (James) and Colleen; her niece, Tenneille (Nick); and her beloved puppy, Frou, who was always by her side.
She is also survived by her step‑siblings: Pierre (Kathy), and their children, Maxim and Isabel; Pat (Melanie), and their children, Ethan, Noah, Jacob; Anne Marie (Jamie); Cameron (Linda), and their son Connor, and Andrew (Nicola), and their son, Harry.
Karen’s life was an invitation—to explore, to laugh, to push limits, and to live with both courage and kindness. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for the humour, adventure, and heart she brought into the world.
