Karen McFadyen

Obituary of Karen McFadyen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Karen, at the age of 63, on Monday, May 5th, surrounded by her loving family at the Ottawa Hospital - General Campus.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Karen leaves behind her beloved partner, John Hearty, and her cherished children, Chelsea and Tyler. She will be deeply missed by her brothers, Brian (Lyn) McFadyen and Brent McFadyen, along with extended family and friends whose lives she touched. Karen was predeceased by her sister, Brenda, and her parents, Marg and Clare.

Recently retired from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, Karen was eager to embrace the next chapter of her life. With her characteristic strength, resilience, and optimism, she faced an unexpected battle with cervical cancer with grace and determination. Though a sudden complication took her from us too soon, her spirit and courage remain an inspiration to all who knew her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported Karen throughout her cancer journey — from the friends and family who stood by her side to the dedicated healthcare professionals who provided compassionate care every step of the way.

A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa.  A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health or to The Ottawa General Hospital.

The family also extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate ICU team at the Ottawa General Hospital for their exceptional care and support
