Obituary of Bohdan Hawryliw

It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of Bohdan (Boe) Hawryliw on Tuesday July 13.

Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Lydia Hawryliw.  Boe was the loving husband of Ann Tompkins, very proud father of Scott, (Kenna Bromley), Meghan, (Daniel Baxter) and Jennifer, (Brandon Semchyshen ) and cherished “Grampy” of Eleanor, Charlotte, Ava and Gabriel. He will also be missed by the Tompkins family and unofficial big sister Luba Goy.

The Hawryliw family arrived in Ottawa when Boe was 2 and was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and his Canadian citizenship.

He ran his own company for 30 years (Ottawa Valley Industrial Supply), loved political debate, but his greatest passion was his family.

The cottage at White Lake was always a very special place for Boe, he spent much time as a child, fishing, boating, swimming and sharing good times with friends. As a young adult, then husband, father and grandfather, the cottage became the central gathering place for many events and held many great memories. Also much enjoyed were the annual fishing trips and the January snow golf tournament held at the cottage.

The family would like to thank the oncology and palliative care staffs at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and Ottawa Hospital and the wonderful staff at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice.

Keeping with family wishes, a private funeral will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery. A celebration of Life with be held at a later date when travel and gatherings are not restricted.
