Obituary of Alice Louise (Buchanan) MacDonald Maddin
Alice Louise MacDonald Maddin passed away peacefully, at the age of 83, on June 6, 2022 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Alice was a loving wife, proud mother and “full of fun” grandmother. Alice was born November 26, 1938 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia and grew up as the youngest, being the 18th child in the much-loved Buchanan family.
After marrying in 1960, she and Frank headed to Ottawa where Alice worked at Energy Mines and Resources while raising three children.
During the raising of the three children she participated with their activities in their various sports. Unfortunately, her husband Frank passed away suddenly leaving her to look after three children on her own. After a few years she found a partnership with Samuel Maddin and with him she travelled to many parts of the world. She had various hobbies and was considered a lady of the times.
Alice was known for her love of baking, sewing and all sports. She will be missed immensely by her daughter Kellie and son Jim; son-in-law Dean and daughter-in-law Suzanne; and her grandchildren: Connor, Samantha, Spencer and Cameron, as well as her two remaining sisters, Millie and Anna.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Frank MacDonald; son, Thomas Edward MacDonald and husband, Samuel Maddin. A special thanks to the collective team of doctors and healthcare workers who provided such wonderful care over the past few weeks and months at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
A private immediate family service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Pinecrest Cemetery followed by a celebration of life between noon and 2:00 pm at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road where everyone is welcome.
