Obituary of Cherie Simone Traverse
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cherie Simone Traverse on June 25, 2022 at Ottawa, Ontario (formerly of Placentia, Newfoundland) at the age of 45 years. Predeceased by her mother Mary J. Traverse in 2019.
Leaving to mourn her deep loss is her loving husband Andrew Osmond, her two cherished sons, Lucas and Grant, her father, Liguori Traverse, and her sisters, Kelli Butler (Jim) and Karen Wells (Lloyd) and sister-in-law Linda Osmond (Paul King). She also leaves behind her much-loved nieces and nephews, Kristen Wells (Daniel Lily), Jeff Wells, (Raegan), Olivia and Nicholas Butler and her great-nephews, Mason and Sawyer Lily. She also leaves a large circle of relatives and friends, especially her childhood friends Melissa, Jennifer and Wendy and her special university friends Wendy and Christa.
Cherie was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and grew up in the typical rural Newfoundland setting in Placentia where you were sent outdoors and told to come home when the street lights came on. She could not have asked for a better childhood filled with freedom, fun and good friends. After graduating from Laval Catholic High School, she then moved to Ottawa in 1995 to pursue a Bachelor of Journalism degree at Carleton University which she completed in 1999. In 1998, she met Andrew, the love of her life and her rock these past years. Her life only got brighter with the birth of Lucas in 2008 and Grant in 2011. And then the devastating news in 2013 that she had an aggressive form of brain cancer. She fought long and hard, with grace and dignity to beat that dreaded disease. She did so for over 9 years with Andrew at her side for every minute.
The family sends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kevin Petrecca and his team at the Montreal Neurological Institute who provided Cherie with exceptional care over the years. To say those people work miracles is an understatement.
Family and friends may visit at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Wednesday June 29, 2022 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Fallowfield Church, 15 Steeple Hill Crescent, Nepean on Thursday, June 30th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at the parish cemetery, which will be followed by a reception at St. Patrick’s parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her memory to the Montreal Neurological Institute, which can be found at the following link https://www.alumni.mcgill.ca/give/index.php?new=1&new=1&formtype=MNI
