Obituary of Donald Cameron Stewart
Passed away peacefully on Saturday August 27, 2022 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital at the age of 87. He was born April, 14, 1935 in Montreal. Loving husband of Mary Emma Stewart and cherished father of Dale, Eric (Carla Deschenes) and Susan. Adoring grandfather of Rachel (Eric Dubois) and Justin. Brother of Olive Scott and Kathleen McNaughton. Uncle to Maureen, Colleen, Wally and Heather. Don worked for the Ottawa Citizen newspaper for almost 40 years as a compositor. He was passionate about volunteering in his community and helping others such as marshalling at the Kanata Golf Club, serving at his church St Paul’s Anglican, coaching little league baseball and participating in the Ottawa Citizen hockey school. He loved watching and playing sports such as golf, hockey, cross country skiing, biking, and going on long walks. He particularly adored the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts and Leaf's hockey. Don was a lover of music; Jazz, big bands, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra were some of his favorites. He also frequently attended the Ottawa Jazz festival. He lived his life with lots of humor, positivity and always had a smile that would light up a room. He was always busy and moving with either projects at home or sport activities. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital as well as Bridlewood Trails Retirement Home for their exceptional care and compassion.
