Obituary of Nadire Erişoğlu (née Ürün)
November 26, 1926 – November 17, 2022
Nadire “Boncuk” hanım died peacefully at home on November 17, cocooned by the devoted embrace of her daughter, and surrounded by the care of family friends. Nadire hanım’s genteel spirit and blooming smile is alight in the memories lovingly held by her daughter Nilay; cherished grandson Kayra; former son-in-law, Orhan; and her neighbours and family friends. She is fondly missed by her son, Kani; granddaughter Sinem; and step-grandchildren, Nilay, Dilay, Gülay, in Türkiye. Nadire hanım is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Kamil; siblings, Ahmet, Mustafa, Naciye, Naime; and stepsons, Kenan and Kemal.
Born in Samsun, Türkiye, shortly after the Republic was established, to Hatice and Kadri Ürün, Nadire hanım was a graduate of the Samsun Kız Enstitüsü, a trade school for girls, and was renowned in her youth for her creative handiwork with textiles, threads, yarns, embroidery, and lace. She was often commissioned by neighbours who entrusted her with the honour of creating wedding dresses for their brides. Although Nadire hanım did not have the opportunity to pursue her aspirations of becoming a teacher, when she became a mother and homemaker, she shared her voraciousness for learning with her children. After the passing of her husband, she immigrated to Canada in 2001, where she took immense pleasure in caring for family, especially her precious grandson, harmonizing with nature, and connecting across languages and cultures. Nadire hanım’s warmth, graciousness, and gentility charmed everyone in her presence.
The family recognizes the contributions of the Champlain Regional Palliative Consultation Team, SE Health Care, and Bayshore HealthCare to support Nadire’s well-being and dignity, and expresses gratitude for the exceptional care provided by Personal Care Provider Tina, family friend (RN) İrem Burcu, RN Angie, and CPMA Dr. Dyason and Dr. Kent.
A Memorial Reception will be take place at 11:00 am on Nadire hanım’s birthday, November 26, 2022 at Highland Park Cemetery, 2037 McGee Side Road, Carp, Ontario, following a private interment. In memoriam donations may be made to the Kanata Food Cupboard and CHEO.
