Obituary of Lorna Siurna
Peacefully in hospital on Saturday May 27, 2023 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband of 62 years Leo (2019). Loving mother to Daniel Linas, Donald (Wendy) and Thomas (Caroline). Beloved grandmother to Chelsea Jasek (Jon) and Elena. Beloved great-grandmother to Colton and Georgia.
Predeceased by her parents Eugene and Laura (née Hayes) Monette. Sister of Eugene and the late Margaret, Bernard and Earl.
Long-time friend to Sylvia and Judy. “She has fought a good battle in her quiet, gentle organized way and continues to gain admiration and respect, as well as the love from those around her. It has been a long journey for her and well done on her part.” (Sylvia)
Lorna was raised on Concord Street, in the shadow of her father’s wood lot, and steps from the Rideau Canal. Lorna and Leo moved to the farmer’s fields and dirt road of Howden Avenue in the township of Nepean on 1 May 1959, 3 days later Don was born. They were a long-time, supportive presence in the neighbourhood, and will be sorely missed. A special thank you for the
incredible support to Lorna from dear neighbours after Leo’s passing, including getting her through the pandemic safely, the week-long power-outage last year and even providing assistance through her recent medical challenges.
After meeting Leo at Ottawa Motor Sales on Bank Street, Lorna went on to work at both Merivale and JS Woodsworth High Schools before moving to the Carleton Board of Education head office.
Upon retirement Lorna volunteered with the Ottawa Humane Society’s “Brightening Lives Animal Visits Program”, a community service taking animals to hospitals, retirement and long term care homes. Lorna and Leo also fostered many litters of kittens for the OHS until they were old enough to be adopted out. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society, or the charity of your choice, in memory of Lorna would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to thank the staff of Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital - Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and compassion.
A celebration of Lorna’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 6th followed by a reception at Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road Ottawa. A private interment will be held at a later date.
