Al was born in Philadelphia on April 14,1924.  He joined the U.S.  Army five days after Pearl Harbor and, after finishing basic training, was sent to the South Pacific - New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Bougainville, New Guinea and eventually made it to the Philippine Islands.

He spent three years in northern Japan and landed in Pusan, Korea, on July 13,1950, days after the United States first landed troops there. He was in Korea for two years.   He returned to the U.S. and was assigned as an advisor to two National Guard units in Brooklyn and Queens. He accompanied the units to camp at Fort Drum for summer training and decided to visit Ottawa, where he met Eulice Muise.  They were married the following year, January 17, 1953.

They lived in Brooklyn, NY, where their son Tom was born.  Al was assigned to Taiwan for two years, and Eulice and Tom joined him there after six months. Fort Sill, Oklahoma, was the next posting- thirteen months.  He was then posted to Fort Churchill, MB, where Ralph was born.  They lived there for four years. Aberdeen, MD, was his next posting - thirteen months, after which he was assigned to Ethiopia.  Eulice, Tom and Ralph lived with Eulice’s parents in Ottawa. After 18 months, Al returned to Aberdeen, MD, where he served until he retired from the Army on July 1, 1964. They made their home in Ottawa, where Al worked in the automotive business until his retirement in 1986.

He was a long-time member of the Granite Curling Club. He and Eulice enjoyed golfing and square -dancing together. He learned to ski.   Al was an avid fisherman, loved camping, and motorcycling and always enjoyed a good story.

Eulice and Al lived in their home in Ottawa for fifty years.  After five years in a condo in Ottawa, they moved to a retirement home in Kingston.  Al passed away peacefully on August 24th in the presence of  his wife.

Al is survived by his wife of seventy years - Eulice; their eldest son Tom (Barb) (Kingston), granddaughter Jennifer (Toronto), grandson Christopher (Andrea) (Linz, Austria), and two great daughters Emily and Leona (Linz), youngest son Ralph (Ft.
