Obituary of George Hopkinson
March 1928 - October 2023
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather George Hopkinson at the age of 95 years young.
A man whose journey through life was filled with LOVE, HAPPINESS and PEACE.
He was a devoted husband who will be missed dearly by his beloved wife Juanita Hopkinson whom he created a love story with. Their love, enduring commitment and mutual support bloomed for 67 years of their life. She kept him young with nutritious foods, laughter, dance and many kisses over their years together.
He was a dedicated father whose wisdom and love has guided his family throughout life. Loving father to Kathryn Hopkinson, Carolyn Hopkinson, David Hopkinson (Jennifer Irwin) and Diane Hopkinson. He was proud of his grandsons for the men they have become and excited for all their adventures in life. Cherished grandfather to Keegan Hopkinson and Devon Wagner. He was the second of four boys with whom he had many an adventure and stories from childhood. Dear brother of Cecil (Kathleen) Hopkinson, Edward (Colleen) Hopkinson (pre-deceased) and Victor Hopkinson (pre-deceased).
George was born on March 6th 1928 in Guyana, South America. He studied, worked and lived in Brighton England, Georgetown Guyana and then Ottawa Canada. He created a new life and a new journey with his family in each country he lived embracing the diversity of each of his new homes. His work took him to many countries always returning with a treasured gift for his family.
George Hopkinson was a professional engineer whose career spanned over 55 years. He made an impact in each country he worked. After he retired at 85 years young with the Federal Government, he decided to pursue studies in Computer Animation which quickly became his new passion.
He embraced life to the fullest with interests in guitar, music, food, ballroom dancing, computer animation and more recently art and AI. All of which fed his mind, body and soul. He loved his visits to Salt Spring Island where he embraced his love of nature, new projects and new friendships. His kindness and generosity was spread to all those who were blessed to have crossed his path. A resilient man of dignity and principle and high morals and values who led by example.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Ottawa Civic Hospital and Hillel Lodge where he received excellent care and support filled with compassion and kindness.
