Obituary of Kathleen Picco

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kathleen Nora Picco (née Marriner). Our dear Kate passed away peacefully at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice on March 19, 2024. Cancer may have tried to dim her sparkle, but Kate faced it head-on with courage, proving that even in the toughest battles, she was a force to be reckoned with.

As the devoted partner to her ever-patient husband Donald, she was the centre of her family’s whole world. Her children, Gray and Dallas, can attest to the fact that Kate's love knew no bounds.

Her beautiful smile and generous heart will be greatly missed by her granddaughters Ryleigh and Abigail and their father Tyler Kennedy; and by her sisters Nancy, Mary, Lori, Sue and Wendy. She was predeceased by her father Leonard, mother Thelma, and sister Judy.

Kate will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, her uncle and aunt-in-law Hans and Beth Sander, along with the extended Picco, Marriner, Sander and Lucas families and her close friends.

Kate worked most of her life, first as a public servant at Statistics Canada, then in the office of the family business, Ottawa Sprinkler Installations. She’s remembered for her love of music and concerts, pool parties, her famous deviled eggs, coolers in her later years and of course, naps.

A special thank you to all the amazing medical professionals who took such good care of Kate and her family during the last year – Dr. Wheatly-Price, Dr. Sinclair, Dr. Jessica Rabski, and Dr. Goindi.

In a celebration of her life, we invite friends and family to join us at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Rd, Ottawa, on Monday, March 25 from 2-6pm as we reminisce about the joy Kate brought into our lives.

In lieu of flowers, Kate has requested donations be made to Hospice Care Ottawa, Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice who’s amazing care and compassionate nature continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
