Obituary of Wendell Gourlay

John Wendell Nelson Gourlay; born April 8th 1940, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of May 2nd, 2024. Beloved husband to his wife of over 62 years, Miriam (née Armstrong), and caring father to Laurie. Predeceased by two of his children Steven Wendell and Darlene Mary. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Kristina Sunstrum (Kevin) and Brian Dunbar (Samantha Kennedy). He was a proud great-grandfather to his namesake, Clark Nelson. Loving brother of Glenda Gourlay and the late Colleen Gourlay.

Wendell was born and raised in Kinburn and spent the majority of his life farming, first cattle and then cash crop, before moving onto a career in crop insurance. He had an immense love for his family and there was no ask too big, or distance too far if it meant helping out a loved one. In his retirement, Wendell enjoyed travelling and camping with his wife Miriam and many friends, as well as spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. He was a Past Grand Master of Carleton Masonic Lodge No. 465
