Joan Hellyer (Nee Vincent)

Obituary of Joan Winnifred Hellyer (Nee Vincent)

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Hellyer, surrounded by her loving family. Her long, healthy and happy life was diminished only by the passing of her much loved and loving husband, Gordon Ernest, and more recently by advanced dementia.

Predeceased by her mother Winnifred, father Joseph, and her brother David (Linda), she is survived by her brother John (Norma).

Joan was the caring and cherished mother of Brian (Cathy), Brenda, Susan (Blake), Elaine (Harold) and Carol van Frankfoort (Ron). She was also the proud and adored grandmother to 12 grandchildren: Laura, Danny, Christina, James, Vanessa, Heather, Catherine, John Patrick, Joel, Amanda, Brittany and Ryan; and 14 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Liam, Holly, Gordon, Georgia, Kennedy, Owen, Ben, Forrest, Teresa, Indy, Elwood, Walter, and predeceased Cole.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Nicole Dunlop, the healthcare workers from the Redwoods Retirement Residence – especially those on the Assisted Living floor – as well as the caregivers at Home and Community Support Services, Champlain and CBI Health for the kindness they showed us and the compassionate care they provided to our mother.

Family and friends will be received at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Rd., Ottawa on Saturday, June 15th, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m, followed by a Service in the Remembrance Chapel and Reception thereafter.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
