Obituary of Lori Ann Fox

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Lori Fox on Saturday June 22, 2024 at the age of 62. She was surrounded by her family. Lori was best friend and beloved wife of 36 years to Robert Edmund Altherr and loving mother to Dylan and Kelan. She sincerely cared for and loved Brandon and Septyan as her own. Lori was the dedicated sister to Todd (Mika) and sister in-law to Kathy Stoddart (Ed), John Altherr (Christine) and Jim Altherr. Daughter of the late Marsha Lee Fox (nee Jones) and the late Perry Neil Fox of Wallaceburg Ontario.

Lori wore many hats during her time. She was a journalist, a rocker, a genealogist, a business owner, a musician, a first-class hockey coach, a lover of literature and a lover of animals including her dogs Duke and Max and those she is now rejoining, Sauci, Simon, Zak and Penny. She was above all the most cherished wife, big sister and mother.

She was born in Akron, Ohio, raised in Wallaceburg, Ontario and lived her adult life in Ottawa, Ontario. Lori graduated from the Carleton University School of Journalism in 1984. She went on to found Ingeneas Inc., her own genealogy business where she was able to use her passion for history to educate people about their family histories. 

Beyond her professional pursuits, she was a lover of sports. From football to hockey. The house was full of Packers and Bruins merchandise. She loved to read. From classics like War and Peace to great Canadian works by Mordecai Richler and Robertson Davies. She was always challenging her mind. She carried on her family tradition of collecting Royal Dalton figurines. She loved watching her soap operas and doing crosswords with her husband. This was her true passion; being with her family. 

She dedicated much of her life to her husband and children. She was the glue that held the family together with her endless compassion, humour, empathy and love. She was always offering support and gave all she had to uplift her family even in the most dire moments. Her laugh and smile warmed the whole world. Her strength gave light in the darkest moments.

Lori was always a fighter. Despite the many hurdles life continued to present her, Lori carried on with a grace, composure and strength that very few could emulate. She inspired and inspires all those around her.  She was one-of-a-kind and magnetic. Those who crossed her path couldn’t help but love her deeply. She left us too early. To have known her is to be incredibly lucky. Her spirit lives on in us all.  May she rest in peace and may she never know struggle again.
