Obituary of Gwenneth Nancy Grose (nee Dickie)
Passed away on September 14, 2024 in Ottawa after a long and full life. She was predeceased by her parents, Ebeneezer and Pearl Dickie, her husband, Edgar Grose, her older sister, Helen and her twin sister, Gloria. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Lloyd “Bud” Dickie (Marjorie Bowman) of Dartmouth, NS, three sons, Doug, Don (Charlene LaRocque) and Derrick (Lucie Gagnon), two grandsons, six great grand children and nieces and nephews. Born on December 18, 1927 in Kingsport, Nova Scotia, she completed her nurse’s training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal where she met Ed, to whom she was married for the next 56 years. For twenty-four years she was a proud “Air Force wife” as the family moved to postings in Trenton, Ottawa, Whitehorse and Lahr, Germany. Ed’s retirement from the Air Force brought them back to Ottawa where they revelled in life with circle of dear friends and wonderful neighbours. For many years after her husband’s death, Gwen fared admirably well in the family home that held so many fond memories for her. Resourcefully meeting every challenge, her motto was, “I am doing my best.” Although she was proud of her Nova Scotian roots and her nurse’s training, her greatest source of pride was her family and her role as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, daughter and sister. She had been suffering and in pain for a while, and towards the end the dimming of the light was apparent with each passing week. After more than 96 years it was time to rest. She is missed and she will always have a special place in the hearts of family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at at Ogilvie Villa Retirement Community for the caring and support they gave Gwen and her family during her stay there and especially in her final days.
