Obituary of Zhuohui Chen
Zhuohui Chen, aged 64, passed away on November 4, 2024 in Ottawa, after a courageous and prolonged battle with heart disease. He was born in Hunan, China, to Daiman Chen and Jianfeng Li.
In 1978, Zhuohui began his academic journey at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China, where he met his beloved wife, Juan. The couple married in 1987. Following his undergraduate studies, Zhuohui pursued his PhD in Engineering at the Research Institute of Electrical Communication at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. Zhuohui later joined Juan in Canada, where he continued his academic excellence with a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Photothermals and Optoelectronics at the University of Toronto.
In 1993, Zhuohui and Juan settled in Ottawa, where they began their family. It grew to four with the addition of their son, Michael, and daughter, Emily.
Beyond his research career with Nortel and Huawei, Zhuohui found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an enthusiastic hiker and cyclist. He often explored Ottawa’s scenic trails, and he indulged his passion for kayaking whenever he could.
Zhuohui is survived by his loving wife, Juan, his son, Michael, and his daughter, Emily, who remember him as a devoted husband and father, and a man who lived each moment fully.
A visitation and celebration of Zhuohui's life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM EST at Cole Funeral Services, located at 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, Ontario. All who knew and loved Zhuohui are welcome to join in honoring his memory.
